Have questions? We have answers. Whether you are looking to shake up your weekend routine, master a new lifestyle skill, or host an unforgettable private event, we are here to pull back the curtain on the world of fine drinks. Explore our frequently asked questions below to learn more about our immersive, hands-on workshop experiences.
Q: What is your background and experience?
A: With several decades of heritage in hospitality, our trademarked New York Bartending School® roots set the absolute gold standard for cocktail and beverage culture in New York City. We are proud to carry that unmatched legacy of excellence forward into our next official chapter as New York Mixology. New name, same unrivaled passion! We are pushing the boundaries of modern mixology—exclusively for the enthusiast. Today, our focus is entirely on immersive, lifestyle-focused mixology experiences, alongside private, group, and corporate team-building events.
Q: Do I need any prior experience to attend?
A: Not at all. Our immersive workshop experiences are designed for complete beginners and passionate hobbyists alike. Everyone from a curious novice to a serious enthusiast will walk away with sharpened skills and newfound confidence.
Q: Do I receive a bartending license?
A: Contrary to popular belief, neither New York State nor New York City requires a mandatory bartending license to mix or serve drinks. Anyone 18 or older can legally bartend in NYC, regardless of their formal education level.
However, the professional hospitality industry does look for specific standards:
The NYC Hiring Standard: The state-recognized benchmark is the Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP). While not explicitly mandated by NYC law, bar managers often look for it because holding this certificate makes an employee a much lower liability.
Our Approach: Because we host purely recreational, immersive workshops, you do not need to worry about professional alcohol awareness certifications here. However, practicing responsible hosting—like arranging rideshares, monitoring your guests’ sobriety, and keeping alcohol away from minors—is always the safest route. If you do want to take an ATAP course on your own, it takes just 2 to 3 hours online for under $25. Plus, you can technically brag to your friends that you are certified to serve alcohol!
📌 Our Credential: Upon completing our full line of immersive mixology workshops, you will receive a frame-ready New York Mixology Credential to honor your dedication and proudly display your new mixology skills. This credential is a beautiful, commemorative token of completion.
Q: Do you provide job placement?
A: No. It is an open secret in the hospitality industry that establishments hire based on real-world savvy, personality, and genuine passion. Because our environment is built entirely for recreation, passion, and fun, we do not offer job placement. Instead, we focus on helping you build elite skills and real-world savvy for your own personal enjoyment and lifestyle growth!
Q: Do I need to prepare anything?
A: There is nothing to prepare! All we require is your enthusiasm and a passion for the craft. We highly recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes—you will be standing and moving behind a real bar setup, so supportive footwear is essential. Don’t worry about gear; everyone receives their own dedicated bar tools, apron, and personal cocktail station.
